This area is concerned with the art of Thai carving. There are two main types: Fruit and Vegetable Carving and Soap Carving. I am interested in both type and have spent many hours over the years practicing and perfacting my skills.

With the practical knowledge I have acquired over the years and based on information from the courses I have attended in Bangkok, I have selected a range of Knives, tools and publications. They are suitable for anyone wishing to develop or expand their interest in carving. There are separate areas for Fruit and Vegetable and Soap Carving.

Fruit and veetable carving : I have included a tutorial to show how to carve and important points that you need to know before starting to carve. The range of knives and tools wich I have selected contain those which are suitable for begenners to those who have well developed skills covering the whole range of fruit and vegetables. I have also selected a range of books in English and Thai wich have step by step guides to skill and also provide inspiration and ideas.

Soap Carving : This section contains those knives which are suitable for soap carving. The books for sale are in Thai but beautifully illustrated and have eaxy to follow step by step guides. They are also a good source of ideas and inspiration for new designs.

Hand painted candle holders, inlaid with stones

I have selected a range of carved candle holders. A right size block of mango wood is selected and then turned on a lathe make the desired shape. The middle of the holder is then bored out to take the candle. After this the wood is then oven dried and sandpapered to a smooth finish. They are finally hand painted and decorated with inlaid semi precious stones.

The holder all come with scented candles which are also available for sale.

Handcrafted wooden vase with floral decoration and inlaid stones Mango wood vases

In the West the mango is mainly known as a sweet fruit used in Thai cuisine.

In rural Thailand many houses grow their own trees and consequently have plenty of wood. In their spare time people carved the wood into home decorations. The vases, trays, candle holders were decorated by painting and adding semi-precious stone.

On my last visit to Thailand I selected a range of vases which I find attractive. These make great display items especially for holding artificial flower displays.
